Mt Theo Mechanics Training Workshop

In November 2007 Mt Theo was excited to finally open our new diesel mechanics training workshop. Yuendumu Council voted to allow us to use their workshop and Newmont Mining are helping with equipment and training. Pete Malden, the mechanic, will be training young men from Yuendumu how to be diesel mechanics. Four will start apprenticeships soon, and many others will be able to work with Pete to learn basic mechanical skills.

On the first day 11 young men turned up to work with Pete! The aim of the workshop is to provide young men with a positive and meaningful job that will assist all of Yuendumu community and make them feel proud. When the apprentices have finished their training they will be offered jobs in Yuendumu or at Newmont mines.
